Coloring the Schoolyard with Scouts
In April, the courtyard of Prežihov Voranc Primary School came to life with fresh colors. Together with two groups of scouts from the Rod Sivega Volka scout troop, we organized a yard-painting workshop in a relaxed afternoon atmosphere. Using pre-prepared stencils and spray paint, the participants created colorful patterns and motifs – without the mess or long drying times that come with traditional paints.
The floor painting was not designed as a fixed game board, but as a raster-based background that encourages a variety of play, movement, and outdoor learning. Its modular design allows for easy upgrades and replication on other surfaces. We included motifs of plants, insects, and small animals, especially because the space is also used by the kindergarten unit. In this way, children encounter natural elements through play from an early age.
The workshop was part of the UrbanOasis project, through which, together with the school and local stakeholders, we are transforming a former parking lot into a green, creative, and child-friendly space.
